In this post, we’re going to show you 5 specific ways you can use NLP to influence and persuade others without being manipulative or coercive.
Let's get started!
1. Build rapport
Rapport is the feeling of trust, harmony, and connection that you establish with another person. Rapport is essential for influencing and persuading others because it makes them more receptive, cooperative, and open to your ideas and suggestions. To build rapport with NLP, you can use techniques such as mirroring, matching, pacing, and leading. These techniques involve subtly adjusting your body language, voice, words, and behavior to match or align with the other person's so that you create a sense of similarity and rapport. For example, you can mirror their posture, gestures, facial expressions, tone, speed, and volume of speech, or match their breathing rate, eye contact, and keywords. You can also pace their current state, by acknowledging their feelings, thoughts, and opinions, and then lead them to a more positive or desired state, by introducing new perspectives, possibilities, or solutions.
